Understanding (or “hermeneutical circle”) as it is meant by philosophical hermeneutics is always a metaphor of what is understood. Thus, any metaphor is a hermeneutical circle, and the understanding itself constitutes a “hermeneutical circle” of relevant metaphors about the Bedeutung of what the metaphors refer to. The unambiguous correspondence of “understanding” and Bedeuting in this way allows for their identifying.
